First up, I just want to send out a huge thank you to everyone that's emailed us, commented on our posts, reblogged us on Tumblr, and just generally be as excited as we are about this project!
We're still on the perpetual hunt for material to include in our debut issue, and we'll be making occasional posts on this blog to showcase one particular thing or another that we could really use an article or two about! This week I would love to get at least one historical essay for the magazine. As Lolitas, we are often greatly influenced by trends of the past, and because of that a lot of us tend to be at least a little bit of history buffs. Personally, I love reading about the way things were! So if you have an essay to submit about absolutely anything, from Medieval architecture, to Rococo art, to Victorian etiquette, we would love to read it and maybe publish it in Glacée! If you do have a full-length historical essay for us, please email it to us at glacee.zine@gmail.com!
For those of you who want to contribute something, but don't have a full length article for us, feel free to leave a comment here answering this questions "What was your best Lolita find at a thrift store?". Maybe it was a gorgeous vintage skirt, the perfect cardigan to match your newest outfit, or perhaps you were one of the lucky few to find real brand at a thrift store. If you've got a picture of your best find, even better! Your answer and picture could be featured in Glacée!
Edit: I should add, since I think it's caused a little bit of confusion, we're always on the lookout for any article you might be interested in writing! The requests put up on this blog are just suggestions for those thinking of submitting something but are unsure of what to write! So just because we're on the hunt for a good historical article now doesn't mean that all other entries are closed! We're still open for any submissions and will be until well into the month of May!
Aaaaw... I am still working on my article, I hope I could make it on time.
ReplyDeleteBut I would like to answer this question. :) My best thrift finds were:
-my "Lolita In Touch" dress. (I posted it here http://www.ruffledteadiary.com/2011/01/found.html) I am not sure if the brand still exist. It is from HK, I guess. I got it for like $12. :)
-an Anna House black skirt, for only $4
Actually, there's more in my closet but a lot of them are from the shops in Hong Kong. Most of the thrift stores here are unaware of how much each Lolita piece really cost and I think I am lucky enough to be able to get some pieces that are relatively low priced. I also have photos of them but should I send it to your email?
Thanks! Good Luck to your debut issue! ♥
It's a tie between the perfect pair of mary janes I got for $1 and a cute straw purse with strawberry appliques that was also $1.
ReplyDeleteI think the best loli-able thrift store find of mine has been a beautiful handmade mink fur russian-style hat with embroidered roses on the top...It's perfect for all kinds of styles, from lolita, dolly kei, and even gyaru! I love it! ♥
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely writing an article for you guys; I just hope I can finish it in time .__.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, how long would you prefer full-length articles to be?
I found a over-sized Gap pink T-shirt that I transformed into a cute cutsew. It was only 99cent (not counting some rickrack)!
ReplyDeleteHey there! I am currently compiling a Lolita resource card to hand out during a Lolita fashion show at Zenkaikon (Philadelphia area anime convention. Hope you guys don't mind that I add Glacée as a resource for "General Information" :D Hoping to help spread the word!
ReplyDeleteI found a hot pink trenchcoat made by express for about $10, (not strictly lolita, but I wear it over everything!)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I got a set of high thread count, navy blue bedsheets to use for dress fabric for $1! And it was a two sheet set, so I've made a blouse and skirt so far.
Oh, also, would anyone be interested in Lolita-style nail art tutorials? I'm thinking about making tutorials on matching nails to your coordinates. Like how to do gingham, tartan, polka dots, and sweets.
ReplyDeleteWould you accept a flash fiction piece (fiction that is less than 1000 words) that is fairytale-themed?
ReplyDelete@Piper, sure! We could definitely use some beauty tutorials! Give us an email about it!
ReplyDelete@Namie, yes we would! We're always on the look out for good fiction to include in our magazine! Send us an email!

ReplyDeleteAre you still accepting articles?
ReplyDeleteI found a gorgeous lavender square dancing skirt that looks just perfect for Lolita. It was around 5$ in the used Halloween section at Value Village in September. I was looking through every piece in that section every time I went after I found that skirt!
